The Fruit of SHAWL — Transformation: metamorphosis into Christ's likeness
For ten months we have walked the five postures of SHAWL. We learned to Surrender, to be Humble, to Abide, to Wait, and to Listen. Then we went deeper: death to self, brokenness, union, stillness, and silence. Now we come to the question every one of those months was quietly asking: Has any of it changed you?
November is the month of Transformation. Not improvement. Not self-help. Not a better version of the old you. When Paul wrote “let God transform you” in Romans 12:2, he used the Greek word metamorphoō, the root of our word metamorphosis. It is the same word the Gospels use for what happened to Jesus on the mountain, when His face shone like the sun (Matthew 17:2). It is the word for a caterpillar becoming something that flies.
This is the work of the Refiner. Our ministry takes its name from Malachi 3:2-3, where the Lord sits like a refiner of silver, watching the fire, burning away the dross until He can see His own reflection in the metal. That is transformation. It is not that we become shinier versions of ourselves. It is that we begin to reflect Him.
Be warned: this month will not flatter you. Transformation is the place where we stop admiring the postures and ask whether they have produced fruit. Some days will encourage you. Others will expose you. Welcome both. The Refiner does not turn up the heat to destroy you. He turns it up because He is not finished, and He refuses to leave you as you are.
The month moves in four movements:
1. The Promise (Days 1–7). What God has purposed for you from before time: that you would become like His Son.
2. The Hidden Work (Days 8–15). How transformation actually happens, traced through Jacob, Moses, Peter, and Paul, and through pruning, discipline, and the renewed mind. Day 15 is an honest midpoint reckoning.
3. The Marks of a Changed Life (Days 16–22). What transformation looks like when it reaches your mouth, your money, your enemies, and your suffering.
4. Emerging (Days 23–30). Living as a new creation, guarding against counterfeit change, and looking toward the day when we will see Him and be like Him.
Each day follows a familiar shape: a key verse, a reflection, the Practice of Transformation (something to actually do), a question for Reflection, and a short Prayer. As in recent months, read the full passage in your own Bible before you read the devotional. Read the verses before and after. Be a Berean (Acts 17:11). Let these pages lead you back to the Word, never away from it.
My prayer for you this month is that you would not merely learn about transformation, but be transformed. That those who know you best would notice. And that, beholding Him, you would be changed more and more into His likeness, until you are fully wrapped in His presence.
“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” — 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT)
Scripture quotations throughout are taken from the New Living Translation (NLT).
We'd Love to Hear From You 🍇
These devotionals have been a ministry of love, written one day at a time as the Lord gave them. If you've been blessed, stretched, or challenged by them this year, would you take a moment to write to us? Tell us a little about who you are and how God has used these devotionals in your life.
Your stories will encourage us. They will also help us seek the Lord about whether He's calling us to write a new year of devotionals for 2027.
"Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me." (Psalm 66:16, NLT)
