Biblical Focus: Jeremiah at the Potter’s House
Isaiah 64:8 (NLT)
And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.
Read Jeremiah 18:1–6 alongside today’s verse. God sent Jeremiah to watch a potter at his wheel. The jar the potter was shaping became marred, so he crushed it back into a lump and began again.
That image can sound frightening. But look closer. The potter did not throw the clay away. He kept it on the wheel. The marred jar was not the end of the clay’s story. It was the beginning of a better vessel.
Some of you are carrying the shame of a marred season. A failure, a fall, a wasted decade. You believe you have ruined God’s plan for you. But the Potter is not finished, and He does not discard clay. He remakes it.
The challenge, though, is this: clay has to stay soft. Clay that hardens can no longer be shaped. And the hardening of the human heart comes through resisting God again and again, until His touch no longer moves us. This is why the month of Brokenness mattered. Brokenness kept you soft.
Are there places in you that have hardened? An area where you no longer feel conviction? A subject you change when God brings it up? Hardened places cannot be transformed. Ask Him to soften them, even if softening requires pressure.
The Practice of Transformation
Name one area where you have stopped feeling God’s conviction. Read Psalm 95:7–8 aloud. Then ask God to soften that place, and do one small act of obedience in it today.
✦ Reflection ✦
Where has your heart become hard to God’s touch?
Prayer: Potter, I am Yours. Keep me soft. Remake what is marred. I trust Your hands. Amen.
Marred clay is not discarded clay.
