Biblical Focus: Honest Examination
2 Corinthians 13:5 (NLT)
Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.
We have reached the halfway point of November, and nearly the end of this year's journey. It is time for an honest reckoning.
Paul tells the Corinthians to examine themselves. Not to compare themselves with others, and not to judge others, but to look inward. Is the faith real? Is Christ actually among us?
For almost eleven months, you have read about Surrender, Humility, Abiding, Waiting, and Listening. You have read about death to self, brokenness, union, stillness, and silence. But reading about transformation is not transformation. It is possible to finish a year of devotionals and remain exactly the same person who started.
So pause today and look back to January. Ask yourself these questions, slowly and honestly:
Surrender: Is there anything I am holding more loosely than I was a year ago?
Humility: Am I quicker to admit when I am wrong?
Abiding: Is my connection with Jesus more constant, or only more informed?
Waiting: Do I trust God's timing more, or do I still panic?
Listening: Do I hear God more clearly, and do I obey what I hear?
Do not be discouraged by what you find. Transformation is slow, and God is patient. But do not be falsely comforted either. If nothing has changed, the answer is not to close the book. It is to come back to God honestly and ask Him why.
Remember Day 3: the Spirit makes us like Christ "more and more." There is still more.
The Practice of Transformation
Take 30 minutes to answer the five questions above in writing. Then share your answers with one trusted person this week and ask them to pray with you about the area of least change.
✦ Reflection ✦
If you met the January version of yourself, what would be different?
Prayer: Lord, search me honestly. Show me where You have changed me, and where I have resisted. I want more. Amen.
Reading about transformation is not the same as being transformed.
Help Choose Our 2027 Devotional
As this year of Wrapped in His Presence comes to a close, we're praying about where the Lord is leading us next, and I'd love your help deciding. There are three possible journeys for 2027:
Refined: The Refiner's Fire (Malachi 3:2–3)
Abiding Fruit: From Presence to Overflow (Galatians 5:22–23)
Wounded to Carry: The Ministry of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4)
Please pray over them, then vote here for the one that stirs your spirit.
