Biblical Focus: The Renewed Mind
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
There are only two options in this verse: copy or be transformed. No one stays neutral. Every day, something is pressing you into its shape. The question is not whether you are being formed, but by what.
The world does not usually conform us through dramatic temptation. It does it through slow drip: the feed you scroll, the shows you watch, the conversations you join, the assumptions you never question. We absorb the world’s values about success, beauty, money, and revenge without ever choosing them. We just copy.
Notice the verb. Paul does not say “transform yourself.” He says “let God transform you.” This is the posture of Surrender from January, now bearing fruit. You cannot metamorphose yourself any more than a caterpillar can. But you can stop resisting. You can place yourself where the Spirit works.
And He works through your mind. Transformation begins with how you think. Every behavior you want to change is rooted in a belief you have not yet surrendered. You lose your temper because you believe you deserve better treatment. You worry because you believe it all depends on you. Change the belief, and the behavior follows.
The promise at the end is beautiful: a renewed mind learns to know God’s will. Many believers ask, “What is God’s will for my life?” Paul answers that a transformed mind recognizes it. The problem is rarely that God is hiding His will. It is that a conformed mind cannot see it.
The Practice of Transformation
Track your inputs for one full day: everything you read, watch, and listen to. Tonight, review the list. Ask which inputs are pressing you toward the world’s mold and which are renewing your mind. Remove one conforming input for the rest of November.
✦ Reflection ✦
What belief of the world have you copied without realizing it?
Prayer: Lord, I have copied more than I know. Renew my mind. Change the way I think, so I can see Your will. Amen.
You are being shaped today. Choose the hands.
