DAY 31
October 31
Biblical Focus: The Whole Journey
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT)
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
The silence was never the goal. Being changed into His likeness was.
We have come to the last day, and it is time to say what all the silence was for. It was never for its own sake. It was for this: “we… see and reflect the glory of the Lord… and are changed into his glorious image.” The whole point of the quiet was transformation — to behold Him until we begin to resemble Him.
Look back over the month. We learned to lay down our words and be still. We faced the noise we carry, and let God begin to still it. We learned wordless prayer, the gaze of simple attention, communion without agenda. We walked into the harder country — the silence of God, His hiddenness, the unanswered thorn, the silent Saturday — and learned to trust in the dark. And we found, on the far side, healing, peace, and a silence we can carry into the noise.
But all of it was aiming here. “We… see and reflect the glory of the Lord.” Silence is beholding, and beholding is becoming. The soul that spends its stillness gazing at God is, slowly and imperceptibly, being remade into His likeness. You cannot behold glory in the quiet without beginning, however faintly, to reflect it.
This is the bridge into everything ahead. The whole SHAWL journey — surrender, humility, abiding, waiting, listening, and their deeper forms — has been leading to transformation, to becoming like Christ. And silence is where that transformation quietly happens: not in the noise and the striving, but in the still, beholding moments when the veil is lifted and we see Him.
“Changed into his glorious image.” Notice the passive: we are changed. This is not self-improvement achieved by effort. It is transformation received in the beholding. Our part is only to come, to be still, to behold — and the Spirit does the changing, making us “more and more like him” in the quiet where we least expect it.
So carry the silence forward, past this month, into all your days. “Be still, and know that I am God,” the ancient psalm says — and in the knowing, the beholding, the stillness, you are being changed. The silence was never the goal. The goal was always Christ — seen in the quiet, reflected in your life, and forming you, day by still day, into His likeness. Be still. Behold Him. And become.
THE PRACTICE OF SILENCE
On this last day, gather the whole month into one still act of beholding. Sit in silence before God with no agenda but to see Him — and ask that as you behold Him, you would be changed into His likeness. Then write one sentence: the silence God most wants you to carry forward. Keep it. Return to it. Let the stillness keep forming you long after October ends.
Prayer: Lord, all this silence was for this: to behold You and be changed into Your likeness. Keep me still enough to see You, and go on transforming me in the quiet, more and more, into Your glorious image. Amen.
Silence is beholding, and beholding is becoming. Be still — and become.
Help Choose Our 2027 Devotional
As this year of Wrapped in His Presence comes to a close, we're praying about where the Lord is leading us next, and I'd love your help deciding. There are three possible journeys for 2027:
Refined: The Refiner's Fire (Malachi 3:2–3)
Abiding Fruit: From Presence to Overflow (Galatians 5:22–23)
Wounded to Carry: The Ministry of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4)
Please pray over them, then vote here for the one that stirs your spirit.
