DAY 15
October 15
Biblical Focus: David
Psalm 4:4 (NLT)
Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.
Halfway through. Stop, and take honest stock of the silence.
We have reached the midpoint. Fifteen days ago we set out to learn silence — to stop talking long enough to be spoken to, to meet God in the wordless place. Today we pause, as travelers do, to ask honestly: what has the silence done in me? And what am I still avoiding?
“Think about it overnight and remain silent.” David’s counsel is to take our turmoil into the quiet of the night, to sit with it before God rather than react, to let silence do its slow work of settling and searching. It is an invitation to the emptied room — the inner space cleared of noise, where the truth can finally be heard.
So examine the room. Have you kept the appointments with silence, or have you filled every gap with noise the moment it appeared? Have you stayed when the inner clamor rose, or fled back to distraction? Have you let the silence expose you — or only used it to feel spiritual? There is no shame in the honest answer. There is only the invitation to begin again.
Perhaps the silence has been sweet — you have tasted Presence, and you hunger for more. Or perhaps it has been hard — dry, restless, full of noise you could not still, exposing things you did not want to see. Both are the real work of silence. The dryness is not failure. The difficulty is not defeat. Staying is the victory.
Notice what has surfaced in you these two weeks. The recurring fear. The resentment that will not settle. The restlessness that cannot bear to be still. These are not distractions from the work — they are the work. God has used the silence to show you your own heart, and the second half of the month is for bringing what you’ve seen to Him.
So do not drift into the second half. Enter it on purpose. Recommit to the emptied room. And prepare yourself, because the road ahead goes into harder country — not only the silence we keep before God, but the silence God sometimes keeps before us. The deepest lessons are still to come.
THE PRACTICE OF SILENCE
Take a longer silence today than usual — fifteen minutes if you can. Begin by asking, “Lord, what has the silence shown me these two weeks?” Then be quiet and let Him answer. Write down one thing you’ve learned and one thing you’ve been avoiding. Bring both to God, and recommit to the emptied room for the days ahead.
Prayer: Lord, halfway through, I stop and look honestly at the silence and at myself. Thank You for what You’ve shown me. Give me courage for the harder country ahead. I recommit to the quiet, and to You. Amen.
The dryness is not failure. The difficulty is not defeat. Staying is the victory.
Help Choose Our 2027 Devotional
As this year of Wrapped in His Presence comes to a close, we're praying about where the Lord is leading us next, and I'd love your help deciding. There are three possible journeys for 2027:
Refined: The Refiner's Fire (Malachi 3:2–3)
Abiding Fruit: From Presence to Overflow (Galatians 5:22–23)
Wounded to Carry: The Ministry of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4)
Please pray over them, then vote here for the one that stirs your spirit.
