DAY 13
October 13
Biblical Focus: Moses
Exodus 33:14 (NLT)
The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”
The goal was never silence. The goal was Presence — and rest.
Moses would not move without it. God had offered him the promised land, angels to guide him, victory over enemies — and Moses refused it all unless one thing came too: “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place” (Exodus 33:15). He wanted the Presence more than the promise.
This is where all our silence has been heading. We do not practice silence for its own sake — empty quiet is no gift. We practice it for Presence. Silence is only the doorway; the room it opens into is God Himself, personally with us. “I will personally go with you,” He says — and everything changes.
There comes a moment, if you stay in the silence long enough, when it stops being absence and becomes Presence. The quiet is no longer empty; it is full. You are not alone in an empty room; you are with Someone. Words are not needed, because communion has become deeper than words. This is the gift silence was always straining toward.
And notice what the Presence brings: “I will give you rest.” Not more striving, not more noise, not more to do — rest. The soul that has found the Presence in the silence has found the only true rest there is. Every other rest is temporary; this one goes down to the ground of the being.
You cannot manufacture this. You cannot force the silence to become Presence by effort or technique. It is given, not achieved — a grace that comes when it comes. Your part is only to show up, to be still, to keep the appointment, and to wait with open hands. The Presence is His to give, and He gives it to those who seek His face.
So do not measure your silence by whether it “works.” Keep showing up. Keep making room. And trust that the God who said “I will personally go with you” is even now filling your silence with Himself — whether you feel it or not, drawing near to the soul that waits for Him.
THE PRACTICE OF SILENCE
Enter your silence today with one simple intention: to be with the God who is already with you. Don’t strive to feel anything. Simply hold the truth — “You are personally here with me” — and rest in it. When the silence begins to feel less like emptiness and more like company, stay there as long as you can.
Prayer: Lord, I do not want the promise without the Presence. Go personally with me, fill my silence with Yourself, and give me the rest that only You can give. Amen.
Stay in the silence long enough, and it stops being absence. It becomes Presence.
Help Choose Our 2027 Devotional
As this year of Wrapped in His Presence comes to a close, we're praying about where the Lord is leading us next, and I'd love your help deciding. There are three possible journeys for 2027:
Refined: The Refiner's Fire (Malachi 3:2–3)
Abiding Fruit: From Presence to Overflow (Galatians 5:22–23)
Wounded to Carry: The Ministry of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4)
Please pray over them, then vote here for the one that stirs your spirit.
